1302. Interactive Case-based Antimicrobial Stewardship Education Program to Pharmacists at a Large Community Health System

Abstract Background Education on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is one of the several elements outlined by Center for Disease Control hospital antibiotic programs. However, Infectious Diseases Society America guideline implementing notes that passive education should not be a sole method training as effects are often short lived. AMS strategies beyond didactic lectures and written material distribution needed. We sought to describe implementation an interactive, case-based educational program targeting pharmacists across multi-hospital community health system licensed over 1,500 beds. Methods Each month, custom patient case was drafted infectious diseases trained pharmacist highlight common principle encountered in practice. These topics were broadly categorized into appropriate empiric selection, treatment plan modification, identification non-infectious clinical syndromes. A specific question with multiple choice answers drafted. The disseminated all via email using Microsoft Outlook. Pharmacists prompted use voting buttons select correct answer (Figure 1). After week, results survey shared entire staff along information primary teaching point detailed explanations why each or incorrect. Average number responses per 27 (31%), range 17-41 (19%-47%). 74%, 26%-100%. highest rates came from focusing selection (87%), followed syndromes (73%). lowest rate found modification (65%). Conclusion This leveraged existing technology provide engagement large geographically diverse staff, opportunity apply concepts, assess knowledge general principles.
