1302. Interactive Case-based Antimicrobial Stewardship Education Program to Pharmacists at a Large Community Health System

Abstract Background Education on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is one of the several elements outlined by Center for Disease Control hospital antibiotic programs. However, Infectious Diseases Society America guideline implementing notes that passive education should not be a sole method training as effects are often short lived. AMS strategies beyond didactic lectures and written material distribution needed. We sought to describe implementation an interactive, case-based educational program targeting pharmacists across multi-hospital community health system licensed over 1,500 beds. Methods Each month, custom patient case was drafted infectious diseases trained pharmacist highlight common principle encountered in practice. These topics were broadly categorized into appropriate empiric selection, treatment plan modification, identification non-infectious clinical syndromes.
